| The following old story of discussing wages for a new hire are inspiring, now that I'm looking for a job:
It wasn't just Seth Johnson's wages that really shed some light on Peter Ridsdale's time in charge of Leeds. It was bill for the goldfish. Johnson joined from Derby County in 2001. The midfielder had earned a basic wage of around £5,000 a week at Derby and his agent was determined to winkle £13,000 from the then Leeds chairman. Ridsdale, though, had other ideas. Entering the negotiating room he is said to have declared: "Right I'm sorry, I can only offer you £30,000 a week." Sizing up the situation with commendable speed, the agent shook his head in apparent disbelief and said: "No". Ridsdale allegedly responded by saying "Oh, alright then, £37,000." However, Risdale denies this and subsequently said: "We gave Seth Johnson £10,000 less than has been rumoured."

| It's been a long, hard, difficult winter. Not as difficult for me as for others. But still. So it really is glorious today to bask in this. Back in '92, 18-18 was a dream about as far fetched as MovieStarCrushOfTheDay stepping off the silver screen, asking for my number and checking if I was free tomorrow. I thought me would perhaps catch up one day, just wasn't sure if I'd live to see it. So, hey, apparantly anything can happen. Now for Barcelona, and then onwards to 19! | comments: Leave a comment |
| At an emergency Nordic Council meeting overnight, the governments of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland have decided to split the countries up into smaller units. This is done in light of last nights Eurovision Song Contest results and the fact that dozens, even hundreds of points which the Nordic countries could give to each other are going to waste. The Faroes, Greenland, Aland Islands, Jutland and Lapland will gain independence with immediate effect, and Scania, Svalbard and Kristiania are expected to follow shortly The Government of Iceland has decided to contribute the Westman Islands, the Westfjords, and Flatey Island to the effort. I hate manual labour. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Unlike 9 years ago, I'm not there. So this is going to be somewhat different. But oh, so very excited! | comments: Leave a comment |
| So, there again after nine years of waiting, and this time it's the gloriously tourist friendly city of Moscow with its no-hotel-rooms-free and 1-month-wait-for-a-visa. Good thing it wasn't played there last time round, I was told the night before the match I was going, don't think that works for Moscow. I doubt I'll be trying to get a ticket/hotel/trip, but it's not entirely out of the question. We'll see. In the meantime just enjoy the Ginger Prince at his best (at least until the cease-and-desist gets it taken down.
... yeah yeah, I know, none of you is interested in football, but a) it's MY LJ, and b) it's not as if i do this much. If Liverpool lose tonight, I'll be watching it at a department piss-up, the vast majority of them Liverpool fans. It would be Oh So Sweet. We shall see. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Bah, you UK guys having all the fun. Soon you'll be getting northern lights and proper volcanoes and everything and then there'll be nothing special here. Mind, i just googled the 2000 quakes, and one of the 2 big ones was 6.4. So neyah. Californians: feel free to join in on the one-up-man-ship. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| | I gave up before the end. Absolutely nothing there to keep me watching. Bah.I need to watch the last 10 eps of last season of Jericho this weekend now that the new season's started. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| First episode was distinctly *meh*. It better shape up, quick, or I'll stop watching so as not to tarnish the reputation of one of the best TV series I've seen. | comments: Leave a comment |
| So, it's been freezing for weeks, but at least we hadn't got any extra snow in a while. Until overnight. The view out my front door just now:

| Since a few of the right-of-the-pond (from the view of someone looking down on you all!) people on my friends' list have done this (and with no "euuw" reactions on my part *g*) I thought I'd see where I stood on U.S. politics. ( No big surprise ) | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

| John Scalzi skewers that privilege meme that's been going around. Mostly spot on. I didn't do it, since for one it wasn't useful for oldsters such as me. TV in your room? Gosh... Oh and happy new year all, may it be a neat one. | comments: Leave a comment |
| | Have a Merry Christmas all, and a Happy Yule. Hope you all pamper yourselves and your loved ones and are pampered in return. It's the season for relaxation and comfort and I hope you all get as much as possible, even those with kids *g* | comments: Leave a comment |

| Just back from seeing Beowulf. First off, the 3-D's amazing. Thought it might not work for me, but it did, very well. Don't think I've used both eyes for such a long continuous (or nearly) period of time, ever. So not surprising the right one's very tired now. Even more surprising that the 3-D was that the animation worked almost all the time, even managed to climb out of the uncanny valley quite a few times. Although one scene with Angelina was right down there in the Marianas Trench, looked for all the world like a RealDoll... As for the movie, I liked it a lot. Never read the poem so any changes didn't bother me, and as a story it worked. All in all a damn good trip to the movies. | comments: Leave a comment |
